How to Get There

There are regular 1 hour 15 minutes Myanmar Airways flights from Yangon (Rangoon) to Kawthaung (Victoria Point). Myoma Jetty (Kawthaung) is 30 minutes by car from Kawthaung Airport. Shambhala Tours could arrange pick-ups at Kawthaung Airport.

There are daily regular flights from Yangon, Myanmar to Ranong, Thailand by Thai Airways International, Myanmar Airways International (http://www.maiair.com), Bangkok Airways (http://www.bangkokair.com), and Phuket Air via Bangkok. Shambhala Tours could arrange pick-ups at Ranong Airport and Ranong Jetty to travel to Kawthaung and the tropical islands of Mergui Archipelago.

Visitors from Thailand could take a 30 minutes boat trips from Ranong (a Thai border town) to Kawthaung. Shambhala Tours could arrange pick-ups at Ranong Jetty with Shambhala Boats. There are daily regular flights from Bangkok to Ranong (Flight Nos. TG 3301 and TG 3302) and Phuket Air (Flight Nos. 9R 317 and 9R 316), a daily 20 minutes flights from Phuket to Ranong. It takes 4 hours from Phuket or Samui to Ranong and 2 and half hours from Kho Lak to Ranong by car. Kho Lak is the newest beach destination for Phuket and it takes 1 and half hours from Phuket by car.

Inside Myanmar with Shambhala Tours

Visitors are permitted to visit Mergui Archipelago as well as other places inside Myanmar by Boat or Air, if they buy package tours from Myanmar tour operators, such as the SHAMBHALA Tours. Visitors could visit to Myeik (Mergui), Dawei (Tavoy), Yangon (Rangoon), and other towns in Myanmar. The visitors could depart Myanmar from their same entry point, as well as from any other entry/exit points such as Yangon, Mandalay, etc.

Limitations to visit Mergui Archipelago by Foreign Based Live-aboard Operators

If you purchase package tours from foreign base live-aboard operators, you would be strictly limited only to visit some unrestricted places in Mergui Archipelago and the Burma Banks with their foreign base live-aboard vessels, and you are to follow the specific trip itinerary that you have joined, by paying an entry fees, currently set at US$ 80 to US$120, depending on the destinations in the Mergui Archipelago. In this limitation, your passports shall not be stamped and you shall not be permitted to travel elsewhere in Myanmar (Burma).
